Eat: Thai Rice Noodle (Khanom Jeen)

First of, I must say, I’m a huge fan of rice noodle – it’s light, healthy and my go-to street food. The best is when you sit down and eat at the stall, with small low stools around table with lot of vegetables and hard boiled eggs, pork skin (Kaeb Moo or แคบหมู) to go with your choice of gravy. 

 

That my friend, the cheapest, healthiest feast, you can choose the gravy from, northern Nam Ngiao (minced pork tomatoes), chicken Green Curry, and Fish in coconut milk gravy (Nahm Ya Krathi)…15 THB/plate if you add hard boiled egg and drink, you will end up with only 30 THB max!  

 Rice noodle buffet is famous for lunch in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.

Khanom Jeen Nahm Ya Pa (North East Thai style with cooked Fermented fish) you can add chicken feet or fish ball in too. 😍 yum! 

Vegetables I love to eat with for this choice of gravy, you Chuck these bad boys on top of the noodle and I’m all in chow down mode!

  • Thai Sweet Basil (ใบโหรพา) 
  • Lemon Basil (ใบโหรพา) 
  • Finely chopped cabbages
  • Long beans 
  • Bean sprouts

 ขนมจีนน้ำเงี้ยวเชียงราย  

Khanom Jeen Nahm Ngiao Chiang Rai; orginated from Chiang Rai, you see chicken blood, minced pork, tomatoes and some people like to add chicken feet or chicken broth to make it taste sweeter. 

Additional condiments:

  • Thai fish sauce
  • Dried chillies 
  • Fried garlic (lard oil garlic would enhance the taste though)
  • Lime 

Vegetables I love to eat with this choice of gravy;

  • Salted or mustard pickled (cabbages)
  • Bean sprouts 
  • Finely chopped cabbages
  • Seasonal vegetables

 ขนมจีนแกงเขียวหวาน

Khanom Jeen Gaeng Khiao Wan Gai (chicken green curry) 

Needless to go on as its taste sweet and a wee bit spicy on it’s own with lots of vegs in it. Green curry is a popular choice to go with rice and rice noodle, jazz it up a bit and give it a bash!. Some people love to eat with hard boiled egg and additional fresh vegetables.

ขนมจีนแกงไตปลา(ภาคใต้)

Khanom Jeen Gaeng Tai Pla (southern Poong pla or fish stomach) sounds weird but it is rich in herbs and spices, it also full of flavour but mainly extremely hot! 😘👍

It goes so well with any fresh vegetables and hard boiled egg. 
  

ขนมจีนน้ำยาป่า(ภาคใต้)

Khanom Jeen Nahm Ya Pa (Southern style with fresh fish meat) seriously extremely hot and awesome! I love to eat this with hard boiled egg to get rid of the burning sensation 😍

Additional: fishball, Thai tuna fish or cat fish depends on personal preference really.

Vegetables I love to eat with this choice gravy;

  • Finely chopped cabbages 
  • Bean sprouts
  • Lemon basil
  • Long beans
